INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Chancellor Nasser H. Paydar has announced the appointment of Andrea Simpson as assistant vice chancellor and executive director for alumni engagement.

Simpson has served with the Indiana University Alumni Association as director of alumni programs for the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law, IU School of Nursing, and IU School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences on the IUPUI campus and the IU School of Nursing on the Bloomington campus since March 2016. Her appointment is effective immediately.

As assistant vice chancellor and executive director for alumni engagement, Simpson is the chief alumni relations officer for IUPUI. She is responsible for developing programming and relationships that enrich the lives of alumni and increase the degree to which alumni and friends are informed, involved and invested in the campus and each other.

"With more than 170,000 living IUPUI alumni and an active student body, we are always seeking to advance communication, participation, volunteerism and philanthropy," Paydar said. "I'm delighted that Andrea is taking on this role, helping foster a lifetime commitment to IUPUI among alumni and encouraging their participation in engagement opportunities across Indiana, throughout the United States and around the world."

Simpson has more than 20 years of experience in leadership roles in institutional advancement, supervising diverse teams and volunteers while managing challenging programs. She also has a strong background in events and fundraising for annual campaigns.

"Our search committee looked nationwide for a leader, and we found one right on campus in our alumni office," said J Thomas Forbes, chief executive officer of the IU Alumni Association. "Andrea will hit the ground running, enhancing current relationships while building so many more as we strengthen connections between alumni and their university."

Before coming to IU, Simpson was the executive director of alumni relations for City Colleges of Chicago, where she designed and implemented alumni programs for seven colleges and saw registered membership grow from 28 to nearly 5,000 in two years. Prior to that, Simpson worked for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she was responsible for the management and leadership of an alumni association with more than 140,000 members.

"I'm honored to have this position and look forward to helping guide our strong, active alumni base to even greater heights," Simpson said. "Earning an IUPUI degree means being part of a family, and we want all our members to be engaged for life."

Simpson attended IUPUI and Purdue University as an undergraduate, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in speech pathology and audiology from Purdue. She also earned a Master of Arts in philanthropy and development from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.
