FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis continues to rank among the institutions of higher education receiving federal recognition for supporting exemplary community service programs and achieving meaningful outcomes in their communities.

IUPUI is listed "With Distinction" on the 2014 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in the general community service category. The campus is also named on the honor roll in the education category.

The Corporation for National and Community Service has administered the honor roll since 2006, when it selected IUPUI as one of three universities to receive the honor roll's inaugural Presidential Award, the highest federal recognition an institution can receive for its commitment to community, service-learning and civic engagement.

IUPUI has made the community service honor roll each of the seven years the Corporation for National and Community Service has compiled the list. Awards were not presented in 2011 and 2007. The Corporation for National and Community Service will announce 2015 honor roll members in the fall.

The IUPUI 2014 honor roll listings represent 312,116 hours of civic engagement on the part of IUPUI students, or the equivalent of over $6.9 million using the Independent Sector national volunteer rate of $22.14 per hour.

Campus projects highlighted in the community service category included law clinics in the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law, the Motor Activity Clinic in the School of Physical Education and Tourism Management, and the SEAL Indiana program in the School of Dentistry.

The education category listing focused on the Martindale Brightwood Alliance for Educational Success (formerly the Talent Alliance) and America Reads America Counts programs.

Corporation for National and Community Service administers the honor roll in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, American Council on Education, Campus Compact and the Interfaith Youth Core.
