IUPUI Center for Service and Learning celebrates Bringle Civic Engagement Showcase and Symposium
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Robert G. Bringle Civic Engagement Showcase and Symposium at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis takes place from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at the IUPUI Campus Center in the Lower Level Auditorium.
This year's theme is "Strengthening Partnerships to Enhance Quality of Life in Indianapolis." The event begins with a keynote address by Greg Lindsey, former associate dean of the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI and a professor at University of Minnesota.
“We are very excited that Greg can return to campus to share his experience in building partnerships through student-engaged research,” said Julie Hatcher, executive director of the IUPUI Center for Service and Learning. “His work with students provided the foundation for the Monon and Cultural Trail systems in Indianapolis, and he continues using this approach to his teaching and research in Minnesota.”
A symposium, beginning at 3:45 p.m., will highlight campus and community engagement across the disciplines and foster dialogue through short Pecha Kucha presentations and a BOB (Bursts of Brilliance) Talk.
A reception at 5 p.m. will be followed by a ceremony to celebrate the 2015 recipients of the William M. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion. This award recognizes graduating students who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to their communities over the course of their academic careers. This year, 50 outstanding IUPUI students from 14 schools will be awarded this distinction.
The showcase and symposium are named in honor of Robert G. Bringle, an internationally known leader in the field of service learning who created a lasting impact on the campus as the first executive director of the IUPUI Center for Service and Learning and as a Chancellor’s Professor of Psychology and Philanthropic Studies.
